Dear Chess Friends!

It is recommended to start playing chess at the age of 5. The next task you have to do is to make a kid interested in chess. How to do it? It would be perfect for dads and moms play by themselves, so he or she sees the clear example.

If only one parent plays in the family, you can simply invite your child to play an interesting board game. It is better to make the lesson short so that a kid doesn’t get bored: 10 -15 minutes is enough at the beginning!

Each time tell about only one chess piece, then ask the kid to "cut" opponent’s pieces and pawns. Believe me, he will do it with pleasure. The main thing is to finish on time. If everything is done correctly, the next day a child himself will ask you to play chess.

Does it make sense to lose to your child?

Some coaches categorically think it does not. Of course, if you lose all the time, he thinks that playing chess is easy and that he is already strong enough. So, when a child loses, he might lose interest in chess at all. However, everything is individual. I believe that it is not necessary to completely lose to a child for the sake of a momentary joy, but you can “give chances”.

For instance, you can adjust the situation in a way that if he guesses and makes a certain move, he will get a winning position, or will not be far from the checkmate. If the child did not guess, and, of course, lost, just show him the opportunity that he missed. This approach will encourage your child to think and try more. Your goal is just to teach the child basic rules of the game, other information he can get from a professional.
